Rotating Top Platform

RTP (Rotating Top Platform)

1. No Center Shaft to top platform. Four axis of motion.

(a) Signal cables don't wrap around a shaft even on units without slip rings.

(b) 540 degrees of azimuth rotation (PT Housing) without the use of slip rings.

(c) More room inside the unit for larger slip ring housings if continuous rotation is

required. (Optional Slip Ring)

(d) Top platform can remain locked to pedestal base or can rotate up to

360 deg/sec . Continuous rotation or sector scan can be used for radar applications. RTP can be commanded to any position without regard to PT housing position.

2. Independent control of two elevation platforms. Platforms can be locked/unlocked via host commands. If RTP is locked to PT housing it will track movements of the PT housing. If locked to the pedestal base it will remain stationery. All modes are controlled from the host controller.

RTP_1

The RTP unit is designed to keep the center top platform aligned with the base when needed or move to any position. Continuous rotation or sector scan for the top platform is all under host command. This is useful for radar and similar type payloads. Unlike other manufactures the Burchfield RTP unit has no center shaft through the unit. This eliminates the wrapping of the signal cables around the center shaft on units without slip rings. This design allows for 540 degrees of rotation in azimuth without the use of slip rings. It also allows room inside the unit for larger slip ring housings on units designed for continuous rotation of the PT housing.
