STP (Stationary Top Platform)
1. No Center Shaft to top platform. (a) Signal cables don't wrap around a shaft even on units without slip rings. (b) 540 degrees of azimuth rotation without the use of slip rings. (c) More room inside the unit for larger slip ring housings if continuous rotation is required. (Optional Slip Ring) (d) Top platform can rotate if needed (see RTP specs)
2. Independent control of two elevation platforms. Platforms can be locked together via host command.
The STP unit is designed to keep the center top platform aligned with the base. This is useful for radar and similar type payloads. Unlike other manufactures the Burchfield STP unit has no center shaft through the unit. This eliminates the wrapping of the signal cables around the center shaft on units without slip rings. This design allows for 540 degrees of rotation in azimuth without the use of slip rings. It also allows room inside the unit for larger slip ring housings on units designed for continuous rotation.
